Founded in 1993 by Arthur Cohen and Steven Schaeffer, the firm of Cohen & Schaeffer, P.C. is a full service CPA firm located in New York City and services clients in all fifty states and around the world. Cohen & Schaeffer has a diversified clientele ranging from startups to large multi-national companies, partnerships, trusts, not-for-profit and individual clients.
Our staff stresses strong client relationships while providing tax services, auditing, bookkeeping, and financial reporting. We emphasize the “personal” touch giving our clients the individual attention they deserve. We are large enough to provide expertise in many areas, yet small enough that our partners and staff are accessible and readily available to serve.
We respect our clients and their privacy. Our professional in-house staff completes all our assignments which is monitored and reviewed by our team of senior level accountants.
Arthur Cohen has over 30 years of accounting and tax experience. His specialty is international tax and auditing. Auditing includes small and medium businesses and brokerage firms. Before founding Cohen & Schaeffer, Arthur served as Director of International Tax at a large regional accounting firm and was the International Tax Partner at an international accounting firm. He has served as the Chairman of the International Taxation Committee of the New York Society of Certified Public Accountants, was co-editor of the CPA Journal – International Tax Column, co-authored Foreign Investment in the United States, was author and member of the editorial staff of CCH International Tax Manual, is a frequent lecturer at tax seminars and is a member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).
Steven Schaeffer has over 35 years of accounting and tax experience. His specialty is corporate tax and auditing, reorganizations, acquisitions and dispositions. Auditing includes small and medium business and brokerage firms. Prior to founding Cohen & Schaeffer, Steve was a Tax Partner at large multi-national accounting firm responsible for the large corporate clients and was a Principal at an international accounting firm heading up the mergers and acquisitions department. Before entering public accounting, he worked ten years for the Internal Revenue Service. In addition, he taught undergraduate and graduate level tax and accounting courses including auditing and presented seminars in corporate tax.
Mike has over 25 years of tax and business advisory experience. Before joining Cohen & Schaeffer, Mike served as Senior Manager with an international accounting firm. Mike has performed tax services for a variety of clients including publicly held companies to small businesses. His expertise also includes areas of tax involving personal, fiduciary, and partnership taxes.
